OnePlus Bullets Wireless

Bass Enhanced Bluetooth In-Ears with Convenient Input and Auto Power Off

In a nutshell

The OnePlus Bullets Wireless are a worthwhile upgrade for smartphone headsets, which boast improved technical features, such as a magnetically controlled automatic on/off and fast-charging battery. If you like listening to music in a way that emphasizes bass, but place value on a good resolution with strengths in the spatial presentation, you should take a closer look at these in-ears, especially since the sturdy-looking, comfortable and stable Bluetooth headphones are flexible and also support use while being active.

The Bullets Wireless from smartphone manufacturer OnePlus have a modern design with a built-in battery charging function via USB-C connection and a magnetically controlled automatic on/off switch. In addition to a comfortable fit with a fixed seat, a 3-button remote with an integrated microphone for controlling Android and iOS devices and a full, bass-driven sound are also offered.

The wireless in-ears are slightly angled and have ear hooks, so they are not only worn in the ear canal, but also in the auricle. This provides a comfortable fit with a secure hold, which also allows for use when playing sports or working out, as the headphones have sufficient stability even in fast, jerky movements and won’t fall out. Outdoor activities also benefit from good protection from the elements of the outside world, as well as splash-proof shielding. This provides at least marginal protection against weather-related moisture and sweat, which also simplifies cleaning. The in-ears, with their optically highlighted aluminium alloy housings, have an overall good look while remaining durable.

The Bullet’s reinforced neck cable features a rubberized surface with a pleasing feel, no cable noise and a separate power button, microphone, and USB-C port for charging the battery. Spontaneous use is no obstacle due to the fast-charging capability, as the in-ears only need a 10-minute power supply for up to five hours of use. The appropriate charging cable is included with the headphones and with this, a fully charged battery and a running time of up to eight hours are achieved.

Device Control

The Bullets Wireless support the Bluetooth version 4.1 and offered stable ranges of well over eight metres in a field test with different Android and iOS systems, which is more than a satisfactory result. In this case, the pairing of the in-ears is done by holding down the power button, which switches the system on first and then puts it directly into the pairing mode. As soon as the Bluetooth connection has been established, the 3-button remote is used to control various device functions, with the buttons being fortunately perceptible to the touch, which simplifies operation. The Play/Stop function controls the central multifunction button, which also serves to answer and end calls, while double-clicking it will skip to the next track. For volume control, however, plus and minus buttons are available.

As an alternative to manually switching the system on and off via the power button, the In-ears also offer a magnetically controlled switch. By mounting the housings with magnets, they can be turned off simply by merging, with the option of wearing the bullets around the neck like a chain when not in use. Disconnecting the cases turns the headphones back on and automatically connects to the previously paired device so that playback can continue—a successful feature that also saves battery life in everyday use. Also worth mentioning is the speech intelligibility when making calls, which was excellent in its clear presentation.

Sound

In terms of sound, the Bluetooth in-ears offer a bass-driven tuning with lively dynamics, which in combination with the existing volume reserves, has sufficient assertiveness to make listening fun, even in noisy environments, such as public transport. At the same time, thanks to their resolving power and a clear soundscape with imposing spaciousness, the Bullets Wireless are also able to cope with higher demands in terms of their price range. The earthy, punchy sound character harmonizes with modern productions of rock and pop, hip-hop, electro and jazz so that the in-ears act as everyday companions that make listening to music fun.
