Hörluchs HL1200

Balanced-Armature in-ears with high speech intelligibility and high wearing comfort

In a nutshell

The HL1200 headphones are comfortable 2-way in-ear earphones with high wearing safety, a replaceable cable and fine Balanced-Armature sound. They can be strong in the bass, provided the signal is processed accordingly. Due to the high speech intelligibility of their reproduction, they are well suited as monitoring earphones for speakers and singers. But they will also satisfy hi-fi enthusiasts, with their detailed highs. Compared to the “smaller” models HL1010 and HL1100, the HL1200 offers the buyer even more brilliance and imaging accuracy.

With the Hörluchs HL1200 in-ears, the Franconian hearing acoustics specialists are equipping their HL1 series with two-way drivers that work with Balanced-Armature technology. How these in-ears differ from the smaller models HL1010 and HL1100 can be seen in this test.

The Package

Hörluchs deliver these headphones with six pairs of ear moulds in three different sizes. Silicone and memory foam pads are included in all sizes. Also included are so-called Smart Caps. Using these, you can personalise the appearance of these in-ear earphones. The package includes red removable caps with a black manufacturer logo printed on them, and more caps are available from Hörluchs. There is also a transport bag with cord closure and a cleaning cloth.

Simple and ergonomic

The sleek styling of these ABS impact-resistant plastic earbuds is a little deceptive; the HL1200 is ergonomically designed on the inside. The manufacturer draws on experience gained while producing hearing aid acoustics. This also shows in the treatment of the cable. Not only is it an optimal length for storage under clothing, but its gold-plated mini jack plug and kink protectors at all the fragile points are impressive features. The exchangeable cable is plugged in at the bottom of the housing and from there is fed over the ears. The flexible wire, which is integrated into the cable ends, is helpful. The fit of the headphones is excellent as even larger head movements do not throw them off.

Sound

In these headphones, highs and lows are produced by two separate drivers. In total, the frequency range is 20 Hz to 25 kHz, with up to 120 dB SPL being achieved. The 38 Ohm impedance makes these in-ears a real all-rounder.

In terms of sound, the HL1200 delivers a “typical” Balanced-Armature sound. Accordingly, these Hörluchs in-ears seem at first to have rather a discreet bass. But as you raise the bass during playback, you’re in for a surprise. These headphones offer enormous bass potential. The strong highs are rich in detail up to the highest ranges, providing both a very good stereo image and a good depth gradation of the reproduced signal. The mids, on the other hand, are relatively pronounced, which means that speech is perceived very clearly. In the overall sound image, however, the treble is clearly dominant, making long-term use difficult if the upper frequencies are not attenuated by a cowtail filter.
