The EarSonics ES-PRO is a successful symbiosis of bass-driven HiFi headphones and in-ear monitoring potential. The design, increased output and precise depths are all signatures of a more professional system, yet there’s the innovative adaption for use every day, such as with smartphones and other mobile devices. Listening pleasure is also assured, with sound that boasts a soft, warm character.
French manufacturer EarSonics is a specialist in professional in-ear headphones and hearing protection systems and, with the ES-PRO, they deliver a genuine 3-way model with three high-performance drivers per side. The headset, intended for universal use, is also optimised for mobile devices.
As the design is an aesthetic match for classic in-ear monitoring systems geared towards musicians, you’ll need a bit of patience putting these on the first time. However, patience pays off, with good levels of wearing comfort and no pressure issues when wearing for longer periods of time. This is largely down to the flexible earpiece which is easily adaptable, yet also stable and robust, securing a firm and reliable fit. The longevity of this stripped-back, puristic system is proven by the interchangeable spiral cable, which is connected to the main housing by stable plug connection. If required, a replacement can be sought for approximately 40 euros at most online retailers stocking a good range of audio equipment. However, those sensitive to cable noise should be wary as it present here, although the disruption is not that pronounced.
Sound
This 3-way system has separate drivers for bass, the midrange and treble for each earpiece. Each is seamlessly tuned to the other, ensuring a pleasing vibrancy with an assured and direct response. Instruments are easy to separate and identify on an impressive stage, which has to be commended for its staggering sense of depth. Such spatial recognition is extraordinary for in-ears and offers a great cinematic ambience. The feeling is that you’re wearing something far more substantial than the reality.
As is common with many professional in-ear monitoring headphones, the ES-PRO is strong in output, with the capability for high levels from smartphones, tablets and laptops alike thanks to adjusted impedance. Those who are used to pure HiFi listening hardware are therefore warned! Admittedly, the power potential of these in-ears, combined with the lush bass foundation has a real charm and a terrific sense of fun about it. While the low frequencies present themselves powerfully, the mids are definitely pleasing on the ears thanks to their soft, warm character. Collaboration continues well into the highs, with a less rounded profile and a real sense of presence.
