While the quality of the cable and microphone has been reduced, Creative’s Aurvana Trio shows no weaknesses in terms of sound. On the contrary, the hybrid driver arrangement plays all features accurately and scores points with excellent bass response, as well as high clarity in the mid and high frequency ranges. Thanks to the extended frequency range, this in-ear system is ideal for hi-res music players.
Creative’s Aurvana Trio are universal hi-fi headphones for mobile devices, featuring three drivers on each side which have an emphasis on bass tuning. For use with Android and iOS devices, these comfortably fitting in-ears are also equipped with a 1-button remote and an integrated microphone.
These headphones sit really comfortably. With a perfect fit into the auricle, they only protrude discreetly, so you can wear them under a hat if you want to and they remain stable even during a short sprint.
While the headphones themselves appear quite robust and are perfectly manufactured, the twisted pairing cable appears disproportionally thin. Cable noise, especially above the split as soon as it comes into contact with clothing, is a problem, which can be reduced but not eliminated by using a clip. The fact that the cable is connected to the housing by a standard MMCX connector which can be replaced, however, is an advantage for the longevity of the system.
Reliable and functional, the remote controls playback as well as answering and ending phone calls at the touch of a button. In addition, a double press allows you to skip forward to the next track and a triple-click allows you to skip back, while voice assistants can be called by holding down the button. However, the quality of the microphone was not convincing as the owner’s voice was accompanied by background noise and sounded rather dull when making a phone call.
Sound
The hybrid 3-way system features separate drivers for bass, midrange and treble on each side, providing an extended frequency response from 5 to 40,000 Hertz. A dynamic bio-cellulose woofer and two BA drivers for the mid and high frequencies are used; these are seamlessly matched to each other and produce a harmonious sound image. The Aurvana Trio has a well-balanced sound and the warm, earthy character of the sound and the high levels of clarity made them appealing.
Bass heavy music benefits from a very well defined low frequency response with rich basses, which have distinct depth. What is really remarkable is the fast reaction of the woofer combined with an impulsive attack, which makes the strong bass sound very dynamic and also offers a lot of listening pleasure.
Despite the presence of the bass, the mids have sufficient space which is used to reproduce vocals and instruments extremely clearly and concisely. These appear neither overblown, flat nor overly analytical, but have a subtle softness and warmth without losing their naturalness.
As much as the bass goes down deep, so the upper high range also has a stable presence, with the trebles being reproduced very clearly and in a controlled manner. The only thing that stands out is that the stereo image is compact rather than wide, which is often the case with in-ear systems. Nevertheless, a certain depth is suggested, which is especially beneficial for voice reproduction. There is also a high output with considerable reserves so that, if desired, you can turn the volume up loud.
