Hörluchs HL4410

No side issues

The HL4330 come with a small, robust zippered case, equipped with relatively hard shells and a nylon cover. A wrist strap ensures that there is no need to search for the zipper. Inside the case, the in-ears are stored in separate compartments along with the interchangeable cables. Unfortunately, the bendable part that can be adapted to the ear must always be bent up when the headphones are stowed in the case. A denim bag with a drawstring, a gold-plated 6.3 mm jack adapter and a cleaning cloth are also included. Six pairs of silicone and memory foam earpieces supplement the package, each in three sizes. Last but not least, two special containers with interchangeable filters are also included; these can be inserted inside the headphone housings. In order to be able to exchange the filters effortlessly, a small rod is fastened to the filters, and serves as a special fitting tool. Thanks to the enclosed instructions, changing the filters is child’s play, so hygiene and good sound are ensured in no time at all.

Manufacture, equipment and fit

The housings of the HL4410 are manufactured in Franconia by Hörluchs using 3D printing. The manufacturer relies on a shape, which they have developed on the basis of their experience in fitting a number of hearing aids. This is exactly what these in-ears do; they fit perfectly in the ear, because they fit snugly without individual adjustments (at least for me). The ear moulds can be moved in order to adjust the sound levels in the auditory canal. This makes the auditory process shorter or longer, so that the sound can be correspondingly richer or more balanced.

The bending wire embedded at the cable ends is also beneficial for achieving a good fit with these in-ears. The cable is routed from the housings over the ear, so that there is no pulling at the housings if the cable is fitted below the ears. The 160 cm long cable is replaceable and has corrosion-free gold-plated contacts on both the housing plugs and the mini jack plugs at the other end. Without cables, the headphones weigh just less than six grams, so they can be worn for long periods of time without any feeling of heaviness. They are offered by Hörluchs in transparent grey and matt black. However, we found that the latter turns out to be more glossy than matt.

Technological details

These in-ears have an impedance of 20 ohm. Therefore they are also suitable for use with headphone preamps with low power. The maximum sound pressure level of 130 dB SPL makes them quite a loud example of the in-ear type of headphones and not only are their dynamics broad, but also they have a wide frequency spectrum. It ranges from ultra-deep 10 Hz to incredibly high 35 kHz. This enormous range is made possible by the use of four separate drivers, each of which takes care of a part of the entire sound spectrum.

Sound.

The bass-stressed sound advertised by the manufacturer is the first attraction of this in-ear model for me, even without bass boost or equalizer. With this, the HL4410 gives a thoroughly commanding impression right down to the sub-basses. The mids of this model sound much more balanced to me than the one- to three-way models of the Hörluchs headphone series. In addition, the high frequencies are precise and rich in detail. This benefits the overall sound image, which consequently impresses with depth of sound and an enormous stereo field. In addition to the tonal brilliance, there is an “openness” that not many in-ears can achieve. This makes the signals you listen to seem almost vivid. This is due in large part to the fact that the frequency spectrum of these headphones extends far beyond the (consciously) perceptible range and thus conveys a kind of sonic “boundlessness”. Transients are reproduced with punch and accuracy in both quiet and loud playback. Rarely have I been so enthusiastic about an in-ear sound.
