For a price of 99 Euro Lyperteks Tevi are extremely competitive and I would give them a real recommendation. The features, the workmanship and the wearing comfort impressed this listener., and the Tevi scores point for the long playing time. Ultimately, however, it is the sound that is right: the tuning is honest, balanced, powerful and rich in detail. Best of all: compared to Apple’s AirPods Pro and Sennheiser’s Momentum True Wireless you pay just under a third of the price!
With the “Tevi” model, the up and coming Chinese manufacturer Lypertek is joining the market for true-wireless headphones.
This design necessitates slightly protruding ear moulds as they contain electronics and the battery.
Lypertek also relies on mechanical operating elements in the form of wide push buttons at the ends of both headphones. This is deliberate, because many users often inadvertently trigger alternative sensors.
The two Tevi earbuds travel in a nice cloth-covered case that also functions as a charging station thanks to its USB-C connection. The battery capacity is remarkable: in practice, the headphones can be used for about ten hours depending on the volume, and the case extends this playing time to 70 hours (according to the manufacturer’s specification). A quick charge function, taking 15 minutes for two hours playing time, is also provided.
Further features include support for Bluetooth 5, integration of the AAC and aptX audio codecs and high IPX7 certification – up to 1 metre of water submergence.
Practice
The size of the headphones is comfortable and not too bulky. In contrast to some competitors, the Tevi model is rather slim. Nevertheless, part of the system protrudes from the ear due to the design. In my case, I would describe the wearing comfort, with the right silicone fittings, as pleasant, safe and suitable for sports. For running, however, these headphones would not be my first choice.
The left and right earbuds are paired individually. They have independent signal processing and can therefore also be used individually – which makes sense for making regular telephone calls.
The buttons on the left and right are used to start and stop music playback or to answer and hang up telephone calls. Double clicks increase and decrease the volume, while triple clicks skip through tracks. A smartphone voice assistant can also be called up. Pressing and holding the button switches the headphones on and off. At the same time, the respective earbuds are automatically switched off by magnetically snapping them into the shaped spaces in the case. The re-pairing process is pleasingly quick.
The use of the buttons on the earpieces is a matter of taste and not everyone’s cup of tea due to the positioning. Although I didn’t feel like I was pressing the earbuds into my ears during operation, I needed to brace my hands to adjust them in my ears. Controlling them via smartphone was more comfortable, but this requires you to take it out of your pocket all the time.
Extras such as noise-cancelling or amplification of ambient noise are not provided in this model, nor is an app. However, the range of the Bluetooth connection, which kept stable even through several walls, is convincing.
Sound
Teri convinces with a powerful, tidy and – if required – high-level sound. It uses a 6 mm graph driver, an extremely light and stable material that is also flexible. The Qualcomm Kalimba signal processor ensures clean conversion and the AAC and aptX codecs ensure an increased bandwidth, which should also satisfy higher demands in everyday use. aptX HD or LL, on the other hand, are not part of this kit.
Besides its general balance, I’m convinced by the tight and impressive bass which reaches far down and was tonally accurate. The same applies to the generally good definition, which also provides an appealing detail resolution in the mid-range for presence, and in the high-frequency range. Towards the top, the Tevi sounds open, perhaps even a bit too accentuated. However, I wouldn’t describe the dynamic driver as “hard” – it merely follows a present, rather than a warm, basic direction.
The construction of the stereo stage is stable; the panning including associated movements is clearly comprehensible. As with most competitors, the room depth in the in-ear area is not very pronounced.
With these sound characteristics, Tevi can easily keep up with true- wireless products from Apple, Sony and Sennheiser, although it costs significantly less. Finally, the device I tested did not present any weaknesses in speech quality: this is where Qualcomm’s noise reduction for the microphone comes in. If you want even better sound, simply take an earbud out of your ear and hold it in front of your mouth!
