Kygo E4/1000

Bluetooth-In-Ear for the Sporty Listener

In a nutshell

The Kygo E4/1000 headphones are aimed at a young audience looking for an all-round headset for everyday use that is also suitable for gym workouts. They are also a formidable companion in the office or on the train, thanks to their good external shielding. In terms of sound, these headphones are solid all-rounders that are suitable for all music styles, although you should also be aware that you are not getting a high-end Hi-Fi device here. In its price range, however, the E4/1000 headset can be heard well and leaves little room for complaint.

Wireless sports headphones are immensely practical. The permanent tangle of cables is a real nuisance in the gym where they can get stuck on the equipment. The Kygo E4/1000 is the sports version of the Kygo E4/600 and is intended to combine both wireless operation and the guarantee that the in-ears will not fail after a few months’ exposure to perspiration.

Equipment

The scope of delivery of the E4/1000 is extensive for this price class: Numerous attachments from silicone to foam in different sizes to adapt the headphones for each ear accordingly. The foam tips also offer even better shielding from external noise. Thanks to the Freebit wings, the E4/1000 headphones sit securely in your ear and, as already mentioned, the earpiece is both water-repellent and resistant to perspiration. A soft carrying bag and a USB cable round off the package.

The two earpieces are connected with a cable that also holds a three-button system that controls your smartphone. Here, the standard options are available: Track change, volume, and the ability to accept calls. To mitigate the risk of losing the headphones, the classic magnet construction in the two earpieces ensures that they can be clipped together to form a chain and then worn around the neck when not in use.

Sound Properties

The bass and the lower mids are quite accentuated – with R&B music or electronica, the headphones offer a solid foundation with a very direct sound and a good portion of punch. For pop or jazz, the impulse fidelity could do with a bit more accuracy. As well as the E4/1000 performs with bass-heavy music, it tends to sound a bit stolid with pop or acoustic sounds due to its presentation in the lower frequencies. For styles with a finer resolution, more treble would be desirable. Yet for bass-orientated music, this is not a shortcoming; the compact soundstage, which gives the Kygo the appropriate pressure, also helps here. All in all, the headphones cut a fine figure.

The headphones also do very well with regard to the sound quality of telephone conversations. The other person understood me clearly, even in noisy environments – which is not the case with all Bluetooth headphones.

With an average battery life of about six hours, they also have a decent battery performance, so you can enjoy a similar runtime to that available from more expensive in-ear models.
