“Nightingale” from Sivga are wired planar driver IEM headphones with a beautiful design that is reminiscent of the shape of a drop of water. The housings are precisely manufactured and have solid wood front panels with a metal surround, giving the earphones an elegant and high-quality appearance. The manufacturer claims that the planar driver they have developed provides adequate bass, rich mids, and fine but not too harsh highs. The sound stage is also engineered to be wide and natural. That all reads well, but let’s take a closer look at this IEM and find out whether it lives up to the manufacturer’s description in terms of appearance and sound.

Package

These headphones are delivered in a beautifully designed box with a pattern that is reminiscent of a night sky. Inside you will find:

  • The Nightingale headphones with braided, detachable, balanced Pentaconn cable (4.4 mm)
  • A robust hard-shell transport case
  • 6 pairs of different ear moulds inside the case

Technology

The Nightingale is equipped with a 14.5mm planar driver with a double magnet that has been manufactured in-house. The design, in combination with the materials and components used, should ensure a high sensitivity of approx. 100 dB and a wide transmission range of 20 Hz to 40 kHz with excellent transparency.

Wearing comfort

At just 15g, the Nightingale is extremely light. The shape of the IEM earpieces moulded perfectly to the contours of the ear. The ear moulds felt soft and provided an adequate seal. During our test, the Nightingale was comfortable to wear even during slightly longer listening sessions.

Processing

The teardrop-shaped design gives the Nightingale a unique look. The design is emphasised by the wooden and metal details. The Sivga signature style is evident in these headphones. The detachable, and therefore replaceable, braided cable with a Pentaconn plug (4.4mm) matches the overall appearance. The housing and all of the accessories look very high-quality and are precisely manufactured. The look and feel definitely make you want to listen to music with this IEM.

Sound

The tonal tuning of the Nightingale particularly impressed me when listening to acoustic music, instrumental music and vocals. The sound was very open and full of character. The sound stage was very natural. Vocals, in particular, were impressively localised. Overall, the result produced was an impressive spatial representation of the artistic performance.

The bass range was not in the foreground and was accordingly less emphasised, but therefore quite direct. In music genres with demanding bass, the Nightingale did not really perform that well. Having said that, you won’t experience a poor performance with this type of music, but you might wish for a little more oomph here and there. On the other hand, bass lines were accurately and very convincingly transmitted, and acoustic drums and the low-frequency content of rhythm section instruments were equally engaging.

The upper mids were slightly emphasised compared to the lower mids. This sound impression ensured that instruments could be perceived realistically. The treble was presented with subtle restraint. This tuning gave the upper-frequency range a lively clarity and attention to detail, not least thanks to the range of up to 40 kHz.

Conclusion

The Sivga Nightingale is not an all-rounder; instead, it provides a great option for anyone who wants an immersive and airy listening experience. The sound signature is particularly impressive with acoustic (handmade) music. With these headphones, Sivga has clearly focused on a musical sound with texture.
