Quality Construction

When it comes to materials and technology, Beyerdynamic always deliver the best in class for the price bracket. This is certainly so for the Aventho Wireless, falling around the 400 Euro mark. Things get off to a great start with the base construction, with the product delivering full-powered capabilities in passive operation via the mini jack cable that’s supplied. As such, it does not require additional boosts and sound correction. Part of this is due to the low-vibration metal housing and the Tesla technology found within the patented device drivers. These are aimed to provide the best in sound precision, transparency and an overall increased efficiency level.

Individualised Sound

In Bluetooth mode using 4.2 aptX, the Qualcomm HD codec is brought into play. This delivers HiRes levels of audio. However, the Aventho Wireless goes a little further than the usual here. If you download the free-to-use MIY (Make It Yours) app, you can tailor an individual listening profile. This was developed alongside Mimi Hearing Technologies, an outfit based in Berlin. The hearing test is medically approved, offering different test tones that help determine the lower hearing thresholds of an individual’s ears. The result is then transmitted to an associated signal processor found within the headphones, which is then made permanently available when operating in wireless mode. Sound correction with this device is not focused on compensating for deficiencies found within the original audio recording, but rather addresses the deficits of the individual’s hearing. What’s more, unlike a static equaliser, the hearing correction procedure is a dynamic one that automatically adjusts to accommodate playback volume changes as linearity increases.

Practice

With a charging time of only around two hours when using the USB cable, the Aventho offers a remarkable 30 hours of battery life. In practice, the battery level indicator found in MIY still shows 70 percent after a total of seven hours of listening. That’s certainly impressive.

With a high level of flexibility, the headphones deliver a good fit and don’t become uncomfortable or awkward during long listening sessions. Pairing is quick and easy, with only the slightly stubborn on/off button on the right earpiece causing a minor gripe. Comfort and convenience is further enhanced by the touch function found on the right earpiece, which can be readily adjusted via the app. You can choose to start/stop playback, forward or rewind, change volume, trigger virtual assistants, answer calls and so on. The app also provides battery status information and monitors recommended operational time. This is not only based on the initial readings, but also considers your listening levels.

Sound

The Aventho Wireless convinces with its sound performance, with reliable noise-cancelling properties that keep outside sounds out, while also ensuring minimal noise leakage from your own listening. These headphones are already passive when used with the included cable, ensuring a decidedly balanced, pleasant level of sound that boasts a good degree of transparency. In the bass range, the Aventho Wireless does well with tight playback that’s not over-emphasised, while low bass levels also score well. However, there’s a slight struggle with Doppler effects at high levels. That being said, this is something all manufacturers tend to struggle with, so it’s not a shortcoming of Beyerdynamic specifically.

Mids and trebles are both equally balanced and rich in detail. A clear and open high frequency delivers a precise stereo image. What’s more, due to its linearity, this device can also be used as a monitoring tool when evaluating recordings for any over-emphasis.

The Aventho maintains excellent performance when operated in wireless mode. It impresses further with its integrated hearing correction capabilities. The final result is a beautifully balanced and effortless delivery of sound, that’s also powerful and punch, precise and warm. This model delivers a real fullness of sound that captures scale and depth that most on-ears don’t. As dynamic are also reproduced very convincingly, the Aventho serves all genres well, from pop to jazz to classical productions.

An interesting feature with this headphone model is that the hearing correction capabilities can be deactivated via the app, with five intensity levels ranging from 20 to 100 percent available. In my experience with this test, the result of deactivation saw sound that was still very balanced. However, it was obvious that sound imaging and higher frequencies suffered somewhat. Depending on the specifics of the correction applied, increasing intensities can lead to low level increases. In my test, I decided on a correction intensity of 40-60 percent.

Finally, the speech quality of the integrated microphone needs to be mentioned. Unfortunately, the microphone can only be summed up as mediocre at best.
