As the name suggests, the ColorBuds from 1more come in a variety of cool colours. This makes the stylish pair of earphones not only a functional gadget but also a chic accessory. In addition to the sophisticated versions in gold and pink, fresh mint green and a subtle matt black edition are also available. The metal finish on the outside of the oval earpieces gives the ColorBuds an additional shimmering feel. So earrings can stay in your jewellery box for now.

The shapely earpiece design twists smoothly into the ear canal. The front silicone attachment fits in smoothly, while the oval-shaped back part is then gently held in place in the lower ear. Weighing only about four grams, the earpieces also feel quite light and not too heavy. The fit is very snug and insulating – the passive noise insulation is tight. If you don’t mind the strong insulation, you can therefore wear them effectively during sports, especially since the ColorBuds earphones also have IPX5 certification, so they can fend off sweat during Peloton finish sprints or vigorous cross-fit workouts.

You can keep the Buds in a plastic charging case that matches each colour. This means you can take them anywhere and power them on the go. The case’s internal battery (410 mAh) is charged via a USB-C socket, which should be enough for more than two full power-ups. The manufacturer specifies a total playback time of approx. 6 hours. The Charging Boost is practical: in just 15 minutes, the ColorBuds can be supplied with energy for another two hours.

Pairing the ColorBuds to both Android and iOS devices is instant and secure. These 1more headphones have Bluetooth 5.0 and support the common codecs SBC, AAC and aptX. A secure connection is established to both headphones individually. It is possible to listen in mono mode; to do so, simply remove one earpiece from the smart charging case.

If you want, you can also get the 1more app. Here, music fans can, for example, keep an eye on the battery status of the earpieces and adjust the touch surfaces on the sides. The speech intelligibility of the four built-in mics on the earpieces is okay, but it is not a speciality of these colourful and stylish headphones. For taking the occasional call, voices come across as mid-range and neutral. If you often hang out in video chats for a long time, you’d be better to look for a specialised solution.

Frequency-life balance with ups and downs

Just like the colour variants, the frequency response also shows itself to be lively. There are small ups as well as downs when tuning the ColorBuds, which naturally tend towards a slightly coloured tone. For bass, you don’t need to use an extra EQ to pump a rich foundation through the mini drivers for EDM or hip-hop tracks. If you appreciate volume, you are in good hands and will have fun. Unfortunately, this dominance in the low frequencies makes the mids a little smothered and masked. These 1more headphones lack transparency and airiness when it comes to the precise reproduction of vocal parts, podcast voices or guitar tracks. Nevertheless, the mids are rather warmly tuned and they never get annoying, which is good. The highs are not brilliant but sound relaxed and really comfy for casual headphones. They also don’t get tiring even during longer listening sessions.
